Jeff Robertson, Vice President of U.S. Vaccines Sales for Pfizer, was seeking an innovative way to bring increased attention to the business unit’s five strategic imperatives. The challenge was further complicated by the Division’s recent expansion and the need to integrate new talent into the Organization.
Pfizer partnered with Metajourn to develop a comprehensive plan to heighten awareness and understanding among employees across the Organization, and embed the five strategic imperatives across the Division. Using Howitwrx™, Metajourn’s proprietary methodology, Metajourn and Pfizer collaborated to disassemble their strategic imperatives and link them to the meaningful cultural underpinnings that have enabled the success of the business throughout its history.
During a series of meetings, the team defined the program goals and desired outcomes. They then worked together to focus on the critical content components and key messages for communication. The leaders in the Organization knew that the ultimate solution needed to be unique and compelling if it was to capture the hearts and minds of employees at all levels. The team determined that storytelling would be a primary device to drive motivation and action across the company. They landed on an analogy between the Pando Forest and Pfizer Vaccines. The resulting immersive learning experience leverages storytelling, custom animations, learning mats, and life-size Pando trees. The trees were then used in post-meeting communications to illustrate the interconnectedness between Pando work streams.
The results of the initiative (documented through surveys and interviews) reveal both short- and long-term benefits, not limited to:
- Increased understanding of the five areas strategic imperatives critical to the success of the Vaccines’ Division
- Increased engagement around the Pfizer Vaccines’ Cultural Attributes
- Ownership of, and commitment to, Pando work streams formed to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
- Improved communication between work streams and across the Organization strategic imperatives critical to the success of the Vaccines’ Division
- A united culture and increased participation in Pfizer Vaccines’ organizational change efforts
